US President-elect Donald Trump said on Monday that he will travel to Paris on Saturday to attend the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, which was gutted by fire more than five years ago, in his first foreign trip since winning the election.

The iconic structure was severely damaged by a fire that occurred more than five years ago. This is Trump’s first foreign visit since his election victory.

The Gothic masterpiece, one of the French capital’s most beloved and visited monuments, will reopen its doors later this week to tourists and Catholic faithful.

Major reconstruction work has restored the 12th-century cathedral, its tower, rib vaults, flying buttresses, stained glass windows and carved stone gargoyles, to its past glory, with the white stone and gold decorations shining brighter than ever.

Trump, who won the election on November 5 and is scheduled to take office on January 20, praised the government of French President Emmanuel Macron in a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Monday.

“President Emmanuel Macron has done an amazing job ensuring that Notre-Dame is restored to its full glory, and even more. It will be a very special day for everyone!” books.
