ANTIPOLO – PLDT’s returning star Savi Davison was challenged by a more competitive field and continued to shine with the fastest-ever 28-point outburst in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Davison needed just 95 minutes to record 26 kills and two blocks and keep PLDT unbeaten in two games with a 27-25, 25-22, 25-23 win over gritty Galeries Tower on Tuesday night at the Ynares Center Antipolo.

“I think in my second game I felt a little more comfortable with my movement. I felt like I almost regained the trust of my teammates after coming back after missing the last conference,” said Davison, who is returning from a knee injury that sidelined her in the Reinforced Conference.

“That felt really good and I just feel better all around. I’m just getting back into the rhythm of things. I honestly had no idea I had that many points, but I’m just happy with how everything turned out.”

The Filipino-Canadian spiker was eager to lead the way for the High Speed Hitters as he knew they were up against the tough HighRisers who bravely stood their ground despite all the defeats.
“We saw them take Choco Mucho to five and also how they took Akari to four. We never said it would be easy. We just had to make sure we performed at the end and came up with what we needed, the adjustments to the way we played and all that stuff,” Davison said. “I’m glad we stuck to our game plan. Obviously we fell behind a little bit in the third set, but I thought we fought and that’s a sign of growth.”

Davison and the High Speed Hitters had to erase a 15-21 deficit in the third set to complete their second win and secure a share of the league lead with the idle Akari Chargers.
PLDT coach Rald Ricafort praised the huge improvement of expansion teams such as Galeries, Nxled, their next game Capital 1 and even ZUS Coffee, which ended a 20-game losing streak with its first franchise win.
“As the Nxled coach mentioned last time, there are no teams certain to win now. For example, ZUS used to win, so everyone’s level really rose after the Reinforced Conference,” said coach Rald Ricafort. “You can no longer describe a game as a simple win. With competition increasing, allowing runs like we did before will see teams benefit and pull away. Everyone is a tough opponent now.”
“Every game we feel like our opponents are getting stronger. Even without Marina Tushova, Capital1, led by Iris Tolenada, delivered the fight. Just like in their game against Chery Tiggo, they really fight. We cannot afford to lower our standards. In every game we have to learn and continue to improve,” he added.
Like her coach, Davison is excited to see the league reach a new level after missing the previous tournament.
She is eager to continue competing at a high level after she returns to fitness for PLDT.
“When I come back from an injury I can’t really pretend it didn’t happen. “You almost have to apply the things you learned sitting out to get back in,” Davison said. “I think overall my mentality alone is at a good 80 percent. I’m just glad there’s no ups and downs and I’m freaking out about it all, especially with the crowds here in the PVL. I’m just happy that everything is going the way I would like.”
