Lisbon, Portugal – In his final game as manager of Sporting CP Reuben Amorim led his team to a thrilling 4-2 comeback win over Braga on Saturday. The 39-year-old coach is set to become the new manager of Manchester United.

Amorim’s tenure at Sporting was a complete success. He led the club to their first Portuguese league title in 19 years in 2021 and delivered another championship the following season. Under his leadership, Sporting are off to an eleven-game winning start this season.

Sunday’s game against Braga ensured a fitting farewell for Amorim. After falling behind 2-0 at half-time, he made tactical substitutions that sparked Sporting’s second-half recovery. Goals from Morita, Hjulmand and Harder completed the comeback, with the latter scoring twice in the final minutes to secure the win.

“This is Ruben Amorim” said the Portuguese broadcaster Azevedo. “The guy is lucky and knowledgeable. He goes away, and yet everyone is with him.”

Amorim is now tasked with reviving Manchester United, who are currently 13th in the Premier League. He will bring with him a talented coaching staff including assistant coaches Emanuel Ferro, Adelio Candido and Carlos Fernandes.

Despite his young age and relative inexperience, Amorim has proven to be a tactically astute and motivating manager. Sports fans are saddened by his departure but believe he is up for the challenge of restoring United to their former glory.
