Dubai: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi denied US accusations that Tehran was linked to an alleged plot to kill Donald Trump and on Saturday called for building confidence between the two hostile countries.

He was referring to the alleged plot that Washington said was ordered by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to assassinate Trump, who won the presidential election on Tuesday and takes office in January.
Araqchi said, “The American people have made their decision. Iran respects their right to elect a president of their choice. The path forward is also a choice. It begins with respect.”
He added, “Iran does not seek to obtain nuclear weapons. This is a policy based on Islamic teachings and our security calculations. Building confidence is required on both sides. It is not a one-way street.”
Iranian analysts and insiders did not rule out the possibility of a breakthrough between Tehran and Washington during the Trump era, despite the fact that diplomatic relations have not been restored.
“Iran will act based on its own interests,” Saeed Laylaz, a Tehran-based analyst, said this week. “Secret talks between Tehran and Washington are possible. If security threats against the Islamic Republic are removed, anything is possible.”
