MANILA, Philippines – Cignal coach Shaq Delos Santos praised setter Gel Cayuna for helping the HD Spikers remain unbeaten in three games in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Cayuna dished out 16 excellent sets and delivered 11 points, including three blocks, to help Cignal defeat Choco Mucho (25-18, 25-18, 20-25, 25-22) on Thursday night at Philsports Arena.

Delos Santos said it was the PVL’s four-time top setter’s decision-making that made her a scoring threat in recent games after she scored nine points in 20 excellent sets in her four-set win over Chery Tiggo last week .

“If it’s about changing the situation, then that’s not a problem. “Siguro yung mature din, yung na-improve at every conference, and then yung sa training, and then yung mga ideas lang na nabibigay namin, siguro lahat magkakasama na doon,” said Delos Santos, who has coached Cayuna since college. “And that’s a good thing, the whole team gave a great answer than everyone who wanted to name the matter.”

Cayuna said she was simply showing what she was capable of to help her team bounce back from a heartbreaking finals loss to Creamline in the Invitational Conference.
“Tinatrabaho naman namin sa training. Kilala niyo naman ako kung paano ako maglaro. “Alam rin na kaya cong umatake, can a yun nga sa taga ginagawa din talaga namin, kaya rin lumalabas din sa games,” she said.
The former Far Eastern University star also rose to the challenge given to last year’s All-Filipino runner-up Choco Mucho led by Sisi Rondina.

“Isa sila sa matibay na team. One hundred percent sure that I will bring you the next games this year. “One hundred percent ready,” Cayuna said.
So far it’s so good for the HD Spikers with a 3-0 record tied with PLDT as Delos Santos also praised Cayuna’s games for a balanced attack with Jackie Acuña leading the way with 14 points, Ces Molina providing 13 points while Vanie Gandler and Ria Meneses each added 10 points.
“You have a goal, you have achieved your goal, you have the opportunity to do more, even the middle, you have the opportunity to score your winger, no problem,” Delos Santos said. “Hindi means it’s good, but at least it’s possible to start or sign. And sure, I not only maintain it but also improve it to make progress.”
Cignal has more than a week to prepare for its December 7 match against Nxled in Cebu.
