‘Mohamed’ has become the most popular baby name for the first time in the UK, data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has shown.

The name has overtaken Noah and is now the second most popular name while Oliver takes third place, according to Telegraph.

As for popular girls’ names, Olivia remained at the top of the list for the eighth year in a row, while Amelia and Isla ranked second and third on the list, respectively.

Every year the Office for National Statistics analyzes the latest baby names data to reveal the most popular and unpopular names in the UK.

In its search for data, the Office for National Statistics found that there were 4,661 boys born with the name Mohammed in 2023 across England and Wales. The number in 2022 was 4,177.

Compared to the second most popular name of 2023, Noah was born with only 4,382, down from 4,586 last year.

The Arabic name Muhammad means “praiseworthy” or “praiseworthy” person. It is derived from the word “Hamada” which means “praise”.

Muhammad, known as the Prophet Muhammad (may God bless him and grant him peace) who was the Messenger of Islam, is common in regions with a strong Muslim majority including the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.
