At least three men were killed in a tragic accident in the Bareilly district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, after a car fell into a deep ravine as a result of an incomplete flyover.

according to Times of IndiaThe incident occurred on Saturday when two men, identified as Vivek and Amit, along with another passenger were on their way from Gurugram to Bareilly to attend a wedding, while using Google Maps to get directions.

The navigation system directed them to the unfinished bridge, causing them to plunge 50 feet into the shallow waters of the Ramganga River.

Local residents found the wreckage of the car and the three bodies the next morning and immediately informed the police.

The police sent the bodies for autopsy after arriving at the scene.

“At 9:30 am today, a damaged car was found on the Ramganga river. The police were informed and reached the spot,” a police officer said.

He added, “When the police arrived, they saw (a car), possibly rented as a taxi, on the river. The car headed to the unfinished bridge and fell into the river from there.”

He added, “The two bodies were found and taken for autopsy. The identities of the two people, Amit and Vivek, were confirmed. More details about the identity of the third person are being worked out.”

The families of the victims held the authorities responsible for the tragedy, wondering why the bridge was left incomplete and why no barriers were placed to prevent access to the structure.

They demanded a first information report (FIR) against the construction department for negligence.

“Those responsible for this negligence must be held accountable. Why was the bridge left incomplete, and why were safety measures not taken?” One of his relatives said, demanding an investigation.

The accident raised serious concerns about the accuracy of digital maps and the potential risks associated with relying solely on technology for navigation.
