National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Wednesday was sworn in as chief minister of the illegally occupied Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, after leading his party to a landslide victory in elections held in September and October.

The 54-year-old leader's party won 42 seats in the 90-member parliament, and is supported by four independents and one lawmaker from the Aam Aadmi Party, according to Reuters. NDTV.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Center in Srinagar and was attended by many Indian leaders and politicians, including Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress Party president Priyanka Gandhi.
